On September 24, 2020, I posted a blog called
“The Answer Awaits.” It describes what a curious person I am and how I am always asking questions about how things work, why they exist, or the purpose of something. The day I wrote the post I shared with you how it was the three year anniversary of us losing our beloved dog Jake. In the next paragraph I shared about the loss my granddaughter Grace experienced which read; “A month later, Grace had to say goodbye to her Golden named Sam because of cancer. Our whole family was there with her to say goodbye to Sam. Two years later, Grace’s heart was broken again when she had to put her horse Wilbur to sleep because he had an incurable disease. I told her how sorry I was, and that we don’t always have the answers to why these things happen, but one day in heaven we will know.”
Also on August 5, 2020, I posted a blog called “Precious In His Sight.” Some of the topics I wrote about were about people dropping off unwanted animals in our neighborhoods, and how all of God’s creation matter to Him. There was one particular cat who adopted my daughter’s family and decided to make his home on her porch, which whom she began feeding, caring for, and named Newton. I refer to these previous blogs so you would have the background to understand my blog today.
Unfortunately, our granddaughter Grace lost another one of her beloved animals, his name was Jules. Jules was rescued from a shelter only a year ago when he was just a kitten. After having him for only a month or so, they realized he had health issues. The vet she took him to did tests and put him on medication for his heart which he would have to take every day for the rest of his days.
The porch cat (Newton), got really sick last week and was taken to the veterinarian clinic. After extensive blood tests he was sent away with 2 different kinds of medicines. Our daughter welcomed him into her home and nurtured him back to health in her basement; keeping him away from her other animals to allow him time to heal. On Monday because he was feeling better, my husband and I decided to take him home with us. Newton could no longer continue living on our daughter’s porch, and at this time he is unable to him stay in her home because she had 3 children, 3 dogs, and 2 cats to care for.
Subsequently, when she woke up yesterday morning her cat Jules was very sick. She was able to get an emergency appointment with her vet, but they said there was nothing they could do for the little guy. The doctor concluded he had heart failure because of a seizure which his little heart just couldn’t take. Needless to say, it was sad for her to hear this kind of news! Later when she had to tell her family, their hearts were broken.
I couldn’t believe our family was experiencing this kind of hurt once again, and I began to ask God why? Immediately after asking the question, I felt as if someone was answering saying, “These animals needed someone to love them when no one else would.” I felt as if God knew the kind, loving heart our daughter and her family have, and he destined these animals to be with them.
All this prompted me to remember the kindness of those from Hospice who cared for my mother the last three weeks of her life, when my brother and I couldn’t. It will be eight years this month my mother has been with the Lord.
I am so thankful for the heart of those who genuinely care for others, especially in the time we are living in today. Your kind, loving, sacrificial life will be rewarded greatly in heaven.
