I’ve heard the saying “apple of my eye” many times over the years. I’ve also found it several times in the Bible. But it wasn’t until recently that I understood the depth of it’s meaning.
In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye.
-Deuteronomy 32:10
The original meaning of this phrase refers to the pupil. A delicate part of the eye, something integral for vision. Therefore, it must be protected at all costs.
In the scripture above, Moses recalls God choosing the Israelites to be His people. In doing so, he uses the saying “as the apple of his eye” to describe the intensity and extent of God’s feelings and protection towards His people.
According to Wikipedia, the meaning of “apple of my eye,” refers to something or someone that one cherishes above all others. In any case, both meanings show a picture of perfect and ultimate love felt by our creator.
So if you are a child of El Shaddai, God Almighty, know that you are chosen, cherished and protected by Him.
