The weather was beautiful yesterday and it was a good opportunity to get some exercise. My husband and I went for a walk at Brush Creek Park. It was refreshing to see that most of the trees had buds on them and some of the early spring flowers were in bloom.
As we walked around the park, we veered off the road towards the woods and that’s when we noticed a wood bench that was under a huge, arched tree branch. As we got closer to it my husband said to me, “that would make a good picture for a future blog.”
I don’t have much of an eye for photography, that is definitely a gift that my husband and our younger daughter share. Our daughter actually went to college for media arts/photography and has her own photography business called Young Life Photography, which you can find on facebook @young.life.photographyy
After he took a picture of the bench we started looking around for other interesting things.
We walked over to the creek and I noticed a tree with huge roots that had been exposed by the erosion from the water. The roots were thick and impressive how they had grown down towards the water as if to say “I’m thirsty.” Standing there I immediately thought of the scripture in Psalm 1:1-3 which says;
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the
wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and
night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of
water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
I love how God speaks through His creation, He took a tree and spoke to my heart.
It makes me think of another scripture in Romans 1:19 & 20 it says;
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”
Nature reflects God and I love to look for him in it, but it’s important to realize that nature is not identical with God. When God reveals Himself through the physical world it means that he communicates things about Himself that humans would not otherwise know.
God’s presence is always with us in spirit but the next time you go for a nature walk let your surroundings be a reminder of God and His goodness. Also remember, the most beautiful sight here on earth whether it’s the awesomeness of the mountains, the ocean’s scenery, the brilliant stars at night or any other magnificent creation, none of it can compare to what God has in store for us in heaven!
