Well readers, spring is right around the corner and I am so thankful for that. I really struggled this winter, I felt like my life lacked vision and become very dormant. I was stuck in a season that was just plain ole stagnant. Coming out of a stagnant season is not always easy, but I knew it was time.
”There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:“
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV
Those feelings started after the excitement of the holidays had passed, the anticipation of the new year ended and the new goals I set started to become mundane. Another major contributor to those stagnant feelings was caused by the weather. The frigid temperatures just put me in a mood.
When it’s cold and gloomy, I feel like a bear whose instinct is to hibernate. I just wanted to sit by my fire with a nice soft blanket and veg out or binge watch a Netflix series. Yes, these are the classic symptoms of the stagnant season.
However, I kept telling myself this too shall pass. In the meantime, here’s what I did to help my season of stagnant pass quicker?
4 Practical Steps To Help You Come Out Of A Stagnant Season
- Set a vision for your future and start planning for it
- Take up a new hobby or rekindle an old one
- Journal
- Stay healthy mental and physically
By setting a vision for your future, you give yourself something to work towards everyday you wake up. Unfortunately, many people set goals for the new year but a month later are unsuccessful in motivation. Don’t be too hard on yourself, get back on the saddle and move on.
Hobbies To Consider
Next on the list was to take up a new hobby. It doesn’t have to be one that creates a huge commitment from you that lasts all year. Some ideas would be; learn how to knit or crochet, take up a woodworking or pottery class or, it can be as small as putting a puzzle together.
My youngest daughter bought a puzzle and we put it together as a family when my brother came to visit. We not only had fun discussing the different types of plants that were on it. But we also got to spend quality time together.
Benefits Of Nature
For me, I love God’s creations. So, planting and raising chickens are my favorite hobbies. Starting in February, I make my list of things I need and new plants I would like to add to our garden come springtime. Not only, does preparing for this give me something to do. It also gives me something to look forward to which revives my soul.
Learning To Journal
Third on the list is journal. I know some people who do it all the time, I have not. But one of the blogs I follow had a link to a video that was all about this subject. I found the video quite interesting, and very informative. It gives some reasons why it’s a good idea to journal, and how to get started. Then it equips you with the tools on how to reap the benefit from doing so. Link to the video “The Journaling System that changed my life”
Staying Healthy Through A Stagnant Season In Your Life
Last, but by no means the least; stay healthy mentally and physically. You may need the encouragement of a motivational speaker, a self help book, or a Pastor. I encourage you to be strong and do what it takes to find what will encourage, motivate, and feed your spirit.
“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” – Proverbs 17:22
I hope these ideas were helpful, and feel free to share your experiences in the comment section.
