God’s Word is like the yellow lines painted on the road. It’s for instruction, direction, and protection.
Have you ever driven through the beautiful country side to get to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon? This past week my husband and I took a trip there for the second time. The first time we went was the end of September, 2020. The foliage was so beautiful as we stood looking down into the canyon, breathing in the fresh crisp air.
As we travelled the back roads to Bear Meadows Lodge, my husband did all the driving while I enjoyed all the scenery. He calls me “Miss Daisy” (as in the movie; “Driving Miss Daisy”).
We also had a few laughs along the way ragging on each other. He makes fun of the way I swing my head from side to side trying not to miss any of the views. I’m like a little girl in a candy store who doesn’t want to miss anything.
While enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful view along the windy roads, suddenly there was a very loud humming noise. I soon realized it was a souped-up pick up truck passing us on the left.
After feeling a little startled, I immediately looked down at the yellow lines on the road. To my surprise, there was a solid and a broken line painted on the ground. So, yes he passed us legally.
There are different sets of yellow road markings, and each one has a different meaning. One set has a solid and a broken line which means you can pass if you’re on the side with the broken line. If you are on the side which has the solid yellow line, you are prohibited from passing.
A broken yellow line means passing with caution is allowed.
The solid double line means passing is prohibited.
As we continued to drive, we came to four solid yellow lines which I was not familiar with.
My curiosity peaked so I started to investigate what the meaning of them were. This was my findings: “Such lines act as if there were an invisible wall. Prohibiting the vehicle from turning or crossing over them in any way, for any reason.”
Direction and Warnings
While pondering the meaning of all these lines a thought came to me. The Bible, and these lines had similarities. Let me explain; The Bible is to our every day life, as those yellow lines are to our driving. They both give us direction and warnings of the dangers that could lie ahead of us.
God’s Word is Protection Not Restriction
Some people who do not have a relationship with the invisible God through the Spirit, or someone who has never read His word, may sometimes have the wrong impression of the Bible, and God. He is not up in heaven trying to keep us from having fun or enjoying our life by putting all kinds of restrictions on us. No, He is actually trying to make us aware of the dangerous outcome some of our actions may have in our future.
The Shield of God’s Word
The Bible says; “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12
As the double lines in the road warn us from an action which will cause potential harm. The bible’s instruction also acts as a shield from potential hazards.
Love Does Not Demand
I encourage you, get to know the God who loves you. He wants to care for, and protect you from potential reckless decisions you may be about to make.
Earlier today I read a quote that touched my heart, it said; “Love always gives a choice. Love does not demand love, but love waits for love.” God is love and we have a choice. I hope you chose to allow God’s word to be a lamp for your feet, and a light on your path. (Psalms 119:105)
