"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16
Preparing Your Heart And Home For Christmas
Three days before Christmas;the shopping is done and my stockings are finally hung. As I sit back and bask in the moment of the season it’s never been so clear to me as it has been this year, that Jesus IS Christmas.
I see signs all over that say “keep Christ in Christmas.” While I agree with that, I also feel there is no Christmas with out Christ. He is the very definition of Christmas, and the ultimate gift giver.
The Gift That Keeps On Giving
Jesus is the gift to us from our Heavenly Father, the one who created everything. Thirty some years later, He gave us His very life. Resulting in another gift, eternal life for whoever would believe in Him for the forgiveness of their sins.
Fortunately, His giving didn’t stop there. Jesus promised when He was leaving this world, that He would send a comforter which is His Holy Spirit. When we put our faith in Jesus, His gift comes to live in our spiritual heart.
Is Greatness Residing In You?
This past week, the reality of His Spirit living in me has penetrated my heart in a whole new way. It began when I listened to a remake of one of my favorite Christmas songs. The name of the song is “Mary Did You Know” by Maverick City on their new release “A Very Maverick Christmas.”
During the song, Chandler Moore asks, “Mary did you know greatness is inside of you?” When I heard those words spoken it was as if God Himself said “Cheryl, greatness is inside of you.”
It was an experience that filled me with awe, and it permeated my thoughts the rest of the week. However, God continued speaking this to me yet even in our church service.
Are You Reflecting God’s Light?
For the past couple of weeks our pastor has been doing a series titled “Christmas Presence.” This week his focus was on Jesus’ presence in us. One of the points he expounded on was how we are carriers of Jesus. And because of this, people should see a change in us and they should see His light shine through us.
Unfortunately, a lot of people do not understand this kind of spiritual experience. To them, this time of year is nothing more than happy holidays.
Nevertheless, I serve a God who is always with me, because His Spirit is living in me. And I am thankful He communicates and responds to me when I draw close to Him in spirit. For me, Jesus is Christmas and His gift is one that keeps on giving through all eternity.
Are You Looking For Peace That Lasts More Than A Season?
My prayer today is for those who don’t have this kind of relationship with the Savior and Heavenly Father. I pray that you would look to the one who gives true peace. The kind of peace that lasts for more than a season but all year through.
Jesus calls us all into His peace:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33
