Every minute of the day of every month, God’s love is expressed. However, we are in what I call “my love month.” February not only has Valentines Day, it also is the month of my wedding anniversary.
I know there are many people who don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day because they think we should be loving all year round. While I do agree with that thought, I also think it’s good to have a special day to celebrate those we love.
In this very familiar verse below we see God showing His love by giving. And for those who are called Christians, we are called to follow God’s example. That means we should be excellent in our giving.
God Is The Ultimate Gift Giver Of Love
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
If we are seeking to follow God’s example; we will soon realize there are many ways to give other than material gifts. Don’t get me wrong, when it comes to gifts I’m like a child. I get so excited because I love surprises, and the whole process of receiving gifts. However, the gifts I’m referring to are giving of your time, talents, attention, help, treasures and love .
There are many scriptures throughout the Bible where God encourages us to be givers. Here are just a few examples:
- Time:
But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. -Hebrews 3:13 ESV - Talents:
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace -1 Peter 4:10 ESV - Attention:
He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. -2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT - Treasures:
The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor. -Proverbs 22:9 NIV - Love:
And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.-Colossians 3:14 NIV
We see in His word, by giving the way God would have us to; God’s love is clearly demonstrated to others through our lives.
I hope, you are showing and giving your love all year round to others as God would have you do. But also in this love month, don’t forget to celebrate and reassure that special someone in your life.
