Simple Things

Are you someone who looks forward to the weekend?  Well, if you work Monday through Friday the answer is probably yes.  Over the years, my schedule has changed numerous times.  I’ve worked part time, full time Monday through Friday, and back to part time, including a few Saturdays a month. Although my schedule has changed through out the years, my love for the weekend hasn’t.

Whoever came up with the idea of Wednesday being hump day, understood the struggles of the week perfectly.  By labeling Hump day, it gave us hope to make it through the rest of the week.

In the midst of the covid 19 restrictions, time might seem to be getting a little blurry.  Like I felt it had become this past week when I asked my husband, “What day is it?” It felt as though one day was running into the next, and I lost track of which day it actually was.

For me, the weekend has always signified rest, pleasure, and time with family. Although, there are times when I work harder at home over the weekend, than I do at my job during the week. However, after the work is done, it’s always a satisfying feeling to accomplish tasks at home.

While I do look forward to ocean front vacations, it’s the simple things in life, I am most thankful for. For instance, watching my grand kids playing baseball, and telling them stories as we sit on the swing. Those are the times that bring joy to my heart, and put a smile on my face.

This time every year I start getting excited, as I prepare for family members to visit us from out of state. They usually arrive a couple of days before Memorial Weekend, and we have dinner together, play board games, and plan for our annual family croquet match.  Which always takes place on Memorial weekend.

When the day approaches, we begin by pairing up with our spouse, or a sibling, as a teammate.  As soon as this takes place, our strategy begins.

Our family consists of a group of very competitive men, and a group of woman, who just want to have fun. The game starts off slow, but as it progresses, so does the fun.  At some point during the game, we all try to sabotage my brother, in order for him not to win.  By the end of the game, there is always someone who gets caught cheating, but with that comes lot’s of laughter.

As the weather warms, and the time for our visit is quickly approaching, It is time to start looking for new recipes to share with my family.  I went in search for some of my favorite magazines, and as Ii was flipping through the pages, I found these two recipes I would like to try: Fig, Ham, and Asparagus Pastry Bundles, and Citrus Mint Sweet Tea.

I had worship music softly playing in the background, as I looked through the magazine. It wasn’t a familiar song that was playing, but as it went on, the words caught my attention.

With so many uncertainties we are all facing, I thought the words seemed to be relevant for the our present day. The Title of the song is Praise Before My Breakthrough

As you listen and follow along with the words, I hope it encourages you, as much as it has for me.

Right now we may be living in unsettling times, but I pray you will draw close to the Lord and trust Him to meet you needs .

As for me, I am looking forward to my family visit in a few weeks, and with God’s help, I will continue to focus on those things that bring the most joy to my life.

Have a blessed weekend, and let me know if you try one of the recipes, how you liked them.
