Are There Things In Your Life You Dread?
Over the weekend I had to perform one of my top three dreaded chores, raking leaves. Unfortunately there are just some things that will naturally take place whether we are ready for them or not. Besides the leaf raking, this time of the year tends to be my favorite season.
Here in Western, PA., we usually have beautiful sunny 60 to 70 degree fall days. However, it has not been so this year and I found raking leaves in humid 80 degree weather only adds misery to an already dreaded task.
Last month when summer was nearing its end, I remember telling my oldest daughter how I longed for the summer and hot weather to be over. And that I was anticipating the fall weather being right around the corner.
In our conversation we talked about being four season type of people, and how each season comes at just the right time for us. For example: when I’m tired of the hot weather and the chore of watering my plants, the freshness of fall comes and brings relief. Fall then ushers in the holiday season, and one of my favorite things; spending nights by the fire with family and friends.
However, once the thrill of Christmas and the New Year comes to an end; it’s not long before I begin despising the snow and cold weather. I then look forward to, and start planning for, my garden and what spring flowers I will be planting.
Along with the spring, come cool days and spring showers. But after a month of that, I begin getting anxious for the warmer vacationing weather to arrive. Do you experience those feelings too?
A Time For Everything
As I was raking the leaves that day, this scripture came to mind:
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”
-Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
The Struggle of The Seasons
Struggling that day to rake leaves was something I was physically experiencing. But without a doubt, there are more vital struggles people face each day which are emotional and spiritual ones.
Our lives are a mixture of joy and sorrow, and there are some pleasures and some pain. We experience times of harmony and then struggles, life and then death. Unfortunately, we cannot conquer time. God is the only one who appoints each moment. Nothing in life’s cycle stays the same, and we must learn to go with the flow of God’s plan.
4 Ways To Help You Through The Struggles of The Season
If you are in an emotional or spiritual season that is anything but pleasant, I would like to encourage you to not stay stuck in that season. Focus on keeping up your spirit with hope. Here are 4 ways to help you do that:
- Look to the future – Be positive and look forward to the next season in your life, knowing this one is only temporary.
- Plan for the future – Like I plan out my garden, start planning your next season.
- Make a list – Write down your hopes, dreams, and desires for your future.
- Go to God – Give him your future, frustrations, hurts, and physical ailments, and ask for guidance, help and healing.
Remember, the next season of life is right around the corner even when the season you’re in is lingering a little longer than it should.
The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He (God) has made everything beautiful in its time.”
Though the seasons may change for better or worse, God’s love always remains the same. So, hold on to the hope you have in him because this too shall pass.
