I love the song that was released in 2016 by Lauren Daigle called “Come Alive,” The song’s foundation is based on scripture written by the prophet Ezekiel. I remember the first time I heard it play on the radio, I immediately got my bible and started to read the story it originated from, “The Valley of Dry Bones” found in Ezekiel 37:1-10, which says;
The hand of the Lord was upon me,
and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord
and set me in the middle of a valley;
it was full of bones.
He led me back and forth among them,
and I saw a great many bones on the floor
of the valley, bones that were very dry.
He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
I said, “O sovereign Lord, you alone know.”
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones
and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!
This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones:
I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.
I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon
you and cover you with skin;
I will put breath in you, and you will come to life.
Then you will know that I am the Lord.”
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying,
there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together,
bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them
and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy,
son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain,
that they may live.” So I prophesied as he commanded me,
and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their
feet-a vast army.
At the same time the song was released, I had been going through some emotional struggles in my life. My husband and I had been praying a couple of years for our prodigal daughter to come back to the Lord, and by then discouragement had started to set in. However, God used the words to the song to fill me with hope once again.
I would like to share the lyrics to the song with you;
“Through the eyes of men it seems there’s so much we have lost
As we look down the road where all the prodigals have walked
One by one the enemy has whispered lies
And led them off as slaves
But we know that you are God yours is the victory
We know there is more to come
That we may not yet see
So with the faith you’ve given us
We’ll step into the valley unafraid, yeah
As we call out to dry bones come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones, come alive
God of endless mercy God of unrelenting love
Rescue every daughter bring us back the wayward son
And by your Spirit breathe upon them show the world that you alone can save
You alone can save
As we call out to dry bones come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones come alive
So breathe, oh breath of God
Now breathe, oh breath of God
Breathe, oh breath of God now breathe
Breathe, oh breath of God
Now breathe, oh breath of God
Breathe, oh breath of god, now breathe
As we call out to dry bones come alive, come alive
We call out to dead hearts come alive, come alive
Up out of the ashes let us see an army rise
We call out to dry bones, come alive
We call out to dry bones, come alive
Oh come alive”
As I sang the song in a spirit of prayer, and by replacing the words “dry bones” with her name, I was proclaiming that my daughter’s spirit would once again come alive to the things of God.
Approximately 8 months after I started praying the song to the Lord, our daughter started coming to church again. It’s was a hard thing for me to fathom, but I know God loves my daughter more than I ever could, and in His faithfulness He will continue to fight to get her heart back.
Do you have a prodigal? Or maybe it’s your marriage that has dried up. I encourage you to find a scripture, or a song based on scripture, and pray it to the Lord.
You may get discouraged in your waiting, but don’t give up. God longs to give us the desires of our heart, especially when it’s His desire too. So if your situation starts to feel hopeless, remember that God is always working, and moving on your behalf.
I can tell you from a personal experience with Jesus, that He loves us with a love we can’t comprehend. If He sacrificed His life, and died an unimaginable death for us, will He now leave us to deal with our struggles on our own? No way, He is our super natural God who wants to grow and mature us by using our struggles, and when His purpose is fulfilled He will deliver us through the Power of His Holy Spirit.
