Now that some of the restrictions caused by the covid 19 virus have been lifted, stores have reopened and the urge to shop can now be quenched.
For those of you who like to shop local but still have restrictions, and are not in the yellow yet, there are still things you can do to take pleasure in your weekend.
Although, this time of year weekends can be bitter sweet. Most of us like to think of the weekend as a time for relaxation from a busy week at work. However, the reality is, there are jobs that need to be done around the house before we can enjoy the pleasures of nice weather and relaxation in our yard, or on our deck, or patio.
At the beginning of the season there is always a to do list which includes; raking and deposing of old debris such as, leaves from the previous fall season, etc.. Next comes pulling out all the yard decorations, setting up the outdoor furniture and washing it down, scrubbing the deck or patio. Power washing the house. Getting soil and pots ready for planting, and mulching. It’s never ending as the list goes on and on, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
My favorite part of the to do list is, planting. Even though it can be back breaking, I find it therapeutic. Once the flowers bloom, the strawberries are ready to be eaten, and the first sight of a tomato appears on the plant, that’s when assurance comes that summer has truly arrived.
So, instead of dreading the spring weekend to do list, look at it as an investment. By improving your surroundings you also improve your well being. You benefit not only from the beauty of nature, but the sense of accomplishment. After you experience the sense of accomplishment, you establish the sense of peace and relaxation.
