Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. – Romans 12:21
Did you ever hear someone say, “you sound like a broken record?” Well in case you don’t know what that means; “To sound like a broken record means to repeat something over and over again in an annoying fashion. The phrase comes from certain characteristics of a vinyl record. When it has a scratch or a divot, it may either skip or repeat the same section over and over again.
Doing Good To Others Is A Topic Worth Repeating
Today’s writing comes with the danger of sounding like a broken record. However, it’s a strong subject that has been on my heart for quite sometime.
One of the scriptures that keeps ringing in my ears lately is, “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:15
We who are Christians are called to be different than other people. But how do we show that difference? Jesus says “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” -John 13:35
How To Love Others When It’s Difficult
Let’s face it, people in the world today are more often difficult to love. That’s why we need supernatural power to do so. This supernatural power comes only from the one who is not of this world, who is a supernatural being. So we look to the source of this supernatural love for help, whom is God Himself. He is the epitome of love, and will equip anyone who asks for this same kind of love, through His Holy Spirit.
Evil intent and hurt are hard to overcome, especially when it comes by way of someone you love or someone you consider a friend. But the Bible is clear in Romans 12:21, we are not to be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. It also says in the previous verse;
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
In addition, I pray God would give us the strength and self control to turn the other cheek when someone wrongs us.
Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s hard to do what scripture says about this topic. However we must remember, God is in control and He fights on our behalf . “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. – Romans 12:19. Also remember, as sure as gravity’s pull, everyone will reap what they sow.
