When God Multiplies What We Have, It Becomes More Than Enough

God provides more than enough

In today’s world, do the high prices of gas, food and housing, have you concerned that your means will not be enough? Well I am here to encourage you that when God provides by multiplying what we already have, it becomes more than enough.

There are two stories from the Bible that I would like to share with you today. They’re found in 2 Kings, chapter four. Hopefully, you will find them helpful in strengthening your faith to live in today’s world. The first one is called “The Widows Olive Oil” and the second is: “Feeding of a Hundred.” You may be familiar with them but in case you’re not, you’ll find them below.

So without further ado, let’s begin reading.

The Widow’s Olive Oil

The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”

Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”

“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”

Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.

She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring.  When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”

But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.

She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left. – 2 Kings 4:1-7

God multiplies what we have

Feeding of a Hundred

A man came from Baal Shalishah, bringing the man of God twenty loaves of barley bread baked from the first ripe grain, along with some heads of new grain. “Give it to the people to eat,” Elisha said.

“How can I set this before a hundred men?” his servant asked.

But Elisha answered, “Give it to the people to eat. For this is what the Lord says: ‘They will eat and have some left over.’”  Then he set it before them, and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord. – 2 Kings 4:42-44

The Common Denominator Between Two Stories

Simply put, the common denominator between these two stories is that God took what each party already had and He multiplied it.

Although both instances took place many years ago, and may seem unbelievable to those who don’t have a relationship with Jesus; God will do, and does do, the same thing today for those who look to Him as their provider.

How Are Some Ways God Provides For Us?

While raising four children, many times over the years it seemed like our means were at an end. But miraculously, we always had enough. Whether it was money, food, clothing or shoes, God stretched what we had, making things last a lot longer than they should have.

He took little things, like a bottle of shampoo, and made it last for months instead of weeks. I know it might seem small and insignificant, but all the smalls added up to equal significant!

Over time, I will share some of what I consider the miraculous ways God has provided for our family. But for now, my prayer is that as His people we would look to Him as our main provider. I pray we would stop looking to the world’s way or system, but seek God’s wisdom and provision instead.

If you are someone who hasn’t put their faith in God and His son Jesus; my prayer is that you would have a desire to know God Almighty – El Shaddai “the God who is more than enough.”

We live in perilous times, and we need to turn to God as our savior, and not rely on the fallen state of man.

Please feel free to share with us any thoughts or ways God has provided for you.

God Bless
