It’s been quite some time since my last post, and I apologize for that. Over the last few months, I’ve found myself wondering “what’s the next step for my life, what’s God’s will for my life?”
It all began because of the limited time in each day and the multiple opportunities set before me. I wanted to know which one of them I should actually be pursuing with the limited time and energy I have. Unfortunately, that sent me into a tail spin of thoughts that lasted quite some time, and I began asking myself a lot of questions.
As I worked through some of the pros and cons of those possible opportunities, my number one question was “am I walking on the path God Has Called me to walk, and what exactly is God’s will for my life?” Hence today’s post.
While on the adventure of pursing an answer, I learned some things from scripture along the way. I hope what I found will be as much help to you as it was for me.
Are You Questioning God’s Will For Your Life, and Whether Or Not You’re Walking On The Path He Has Called You To Walk?
I think at some point in life most Christians struggle with the question “what is God’s will for my life?” It also can leave you wondering if the path you’re on is the one God has in fact called you to walk. While you wait for your answer, here is something to ponder: God has plans and a path for us, both corporately as His church, and personally as His child.
God Has Called His Church To Walk In Unity With One Another
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”
John 17:20-21 NIV
Jesus makes it clear in the scripture above what God’s will is for His church and community of believers; it is to walk on the path of unity with one another. To be of one mind as we follow His leading. Now, let’s look at what scripture says about a personal walk.
Which Way is God Calling You Personally?
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Micah 6:8 NIV
This scripture from Micah made me think of walks with my husband. When we walk, we walk side by side. Neither one of us goes ahead of the other but we walk close, communing with one another. That’s how God wants us to walk with Him. So close that we hear His voice when He speaks.
What To Do When You Don’t Hear God Speaking?
However, right now you might be unsure which way the Lord is calling you when it comes to decision making in your life, and that’s ok. Sometimes at that point it’s best to do nothing, other than to keep walking.
In the Bible, there is a man named Enoch. Yet, all it tells about him is; he had a family, how long he lived, and that he walked faithfully with God until he was taken by God.
If you notice, there is nothing mentioned about his occupation, how much money he had, or the type of neighborhood he lived in.
“When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
Genesis 5:21-22, 24 NIV
As a believer in Jesus, we must trust God to lead us by His Spirit. Also, we must trust the faith He has given us by stepping out, even when we are unsure.
I’ve always found that when I step out in faith heading in a certain direction, the Holy Spirit leads me by His peace. If I feel no peace, then I stop, and most of the time change my course.
In either case, when I go to my Heavenly Father for help and direction, He’s always been faithful to eventually show me the path I am to walk. Most of the time in the waiting, He’s teaching me different things, which draws me closer to Him in the end.
God’s Lights The Way For His Will In Your Life.
So, here’s what I’ve realized over the last few months. If I’m in unity with God’s church and pursue peace with the body of believers I worship Him with, I’m in God’s will. And if I’m walking with God everyday showing His mercy, love, and kindness to the lost and needy, I’m in His will. Then, I am walking on the path God has called me to walk, know matter what the peripheral situation is around me. I’ve learned to rest, and find peace in that. God will eventually light up the right path, and guide the rest of my walk.
Prayer of Praise – “Thank you Father for your faithfulness, Holy Spirit and your peace which leads and guides me to see your will and the path you’ve called me to walk.”
Thanks for reading todays post. I’m really excited to say, there are some changes I will be making on Inspired Talk Today. So, keep an eye open for them to soon to be revealed.
