After all these years, I’ve realized when climbing the mountains of life, Jesus is my help to the top.
This past week my husband and I were facing a huge figurative mountain in front of us. Without any other choice, we began to climb it. Although we were exhausted at times, and still had quite a way to get to the top, God has shown up at every ledge.
Just like Jesus in the book of Luke chapter 5; revealed Himself to Simon Peter and his companions in a way they could understand, he’s been doing the same for my husband and I, each individually. However, in this blog I’d like to focus on my husband’s experiences.
The Mountains He Was Facing
The other day my husband was a little anxious about a renovation he was preparing to do. He had to remove and rebuild the stairs leading down to the basement in this hundred year old house. He wasn’t quite sure how he was going to do it on his own. At the time, there was no one knowledgeable in this specific area who was available to help. So, he said a prayer and began his day.
It was early that morning, as he drove down the street where the house was located, when he noticed a couple of men working on the house a few doors up from where he would be. Later on that day, when my husband was telling me about his encounter, he said; “Something inside me told me to stop by and say hi.”
To his surprise as he drew closer to the men, he noticed the job they were working on was putting in stairs. He greeted them, and one conversation lead to another. Before he knew it, one of the men volunteered his time to come and help my husband replace the stairs he had been so concerned with doing.
The very next day, another huge undertaking awaited my husband. He was trying to get a heavy stump and roots out of the ground from a huge shrub that had been there for years. He told me after a couple of hours of trying different methods to remove it, a neighbor came to the rescue. The neighbor put a strap around the stump and then hitched it to his four wheel drive truck. After stepping on the gas peddle, the stump came right out of the ground.
Who Get’s The Glory?
These situations my husband was facing might sound minuet to you, but to him they were mountains he was climbing. I don’t think it was coincidental that the men happened to be there that day putting in stairs. I also don’t think it was a coincidence that the neighbor came of their home at the time my husband was struggling to pull out the stump. I think it was God coming to my husband’s rescue. At the perfect time, when he became physically and emotionally exhausted, the God of the universe sent him help.
In Psalm 46:1 the psalmist says; “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Is God your refuge and strength today? Turn to Him for help. He is always waiting for you to call on His name.
My Prayer To You God
Lord, I am careful to acknowledge where my help comes from: “My help comes from You, the maker of heaven and earth”. Thank you for touching the men’s hearts to show kindness to my husband by giving him their helping hands.
I am thankful everyday for your love and help. You are always faithful to us, and so worthy of my praised.
